Players and members to mark Armistice day

Club members will commemorate the sacrifices made by members of the armed services this coming weekend with two minutes silences being observed at all fixtures.

On Sunday our mini and junior sides will hold a short act of remembrance at the front of the club house at 1055, the remembrance being led by former serviceman and club captain Nick Ashford. This will be followed by two minutes silence at 11am.

The club will also marking the 100th anniversary of armistice day through highlighting to our younger generation a personal connection to their sport, this will be in the form of bio's of the 27 England players who lost their lives in the first world war which will be on display in the clubhouse. This touching project being suggested by Under 10's parent Marie Todd and her husband and under 10's coach Chris.

By way of connection the mini side of the club host Olney RUFC on Sunday, Edgar Mobbs famed for putting Midlands rugby on the map also played for Olney and was sadly one of the 27 England RFU players to have lost his life in the first world war in 1917 at Ypres. Edgar Mobbs memory continues to have positive influence on Midlands rugby to this day through the Mobbs Memorial trust which provides clubs with grants to support youth rugby.

Prior to 2pm the St Neots ladies team will be joined by standard bearers from the local branch of the Royal British Legion as they mark their act of remembrance before their league game against Welwyn Ladies.
