The Heathens were at home for the first time this season, and welcomed Sawston in the Cambridgeshire Cup.
Despite some evenly matched opening exchanges, the Heathens soon showed a superiority that would last the entire match. Debutant Adam Sandle opened the scoring, as he snuck between the tight defence, to cross under the posts.
It wasn’t long before St Neots were over the line as Gary Bailey and Matt Johnson surged through, with the final pass putting Adam Porter in for the first of his brace. Young back rower Toby Hill struck next. Taking the kick off at pace, he galloped through the defence, and despite the support to his left, took the full back on and slid over the line.
Tries continued to be scored across the park in the second half. Pete “The Elder” Arnold got things going again, breaking from the back of the scrum, and using what little is left of his pace to get outside the covering defence.
The pick of the bunch was Pete "The Younger" Sharp, who, sniffing an interception, shot out of the defensive line. Luckily, his senses were Sharp, as he plucked the ball from the air and strolled over from the half-way line.
Captain Dan Hill, who converted 11 of the 12 tries, to add to his second half brace, was thrilled. “To be back at the Common with this team was a fantastic feeling, and to put a marker down for this season was important. Consistency is key, and we aim to push this harder than ever this season”
