After leading from the get go with the St.Neots forwards dominating the play, Holly Hazell crashed over the line to put the first points on the board after 10 minutes. Not to be out done by the forwards, the backs got to work moving the ball swiftly through the hands to centre Vicky Wilkinson, who out ran the defence to take the score to 10-0. Forward of the match Robyn Hopewell made light work of four tacklers to go over in the left corner, adding another 5 point to the score line.
Welwyn started to switch on and responded with a speedy try and conversion, taking the score to 15-7. St.Neots Ladies then quickly ran down the kick off causing a swift turn over. With the ball back in possession the pack got to work, big carries made from Nicki Barker and Charlotte Armitage allowed for an outstanding pick and go from Katie Bills, taking the score to 20-7 at half time.
Half time saw Welwyn attacking St.Neots Ladies with force, weaving in and out of defence to bring back the score to 20-19 after two tries and one conversion.
Superb defence and decision making by Emily Miller, Kirsty Wilson, Frankie Layland and new-comer Tasha Davey, saw the Saints fight back the raring Welwyn attack. Mistakes made by Welwyn under pressure led to Captain Beth Robinson scoring from a quick penalty to take the score to 25-19. St.Neots Ladies carried on their mission to attack with a brilliant 8 pick from the scrum, unfortunately the ref was the other side of the play when Beth Hughes was robbed of her try. (Welwyn kicked the ball out of her hands after she'd grounded it over the try line, we've got video evidence!!)
Not long after, Robyn Hopewell made a break for it, running half the pitch before the opposition could stop her, the backs quick hands and heads-up rugby led to Beth Robinson dummying her way to scoring her second try of the game – 30-19 to St. Neots Ladies.
After another great take from Leah Coombes from kick off and brilliant running from Libby Robinson, superb quick thinking from backs Mercy Aves and Faye Holton added another score on the board taking the final score to 35-19.
All in all, St.Neots Ladies turned up this Remembrance Sunday!
