St Neots Rugby Club claimed the Hunts & Peterborough CRU Knockout 10s Cup on Saturday, capping a day of grit, teamwork, and thrilling rugby with the most dramatic of finishes.

Their campaign began with a narrow defeat to Thorney RUFC, leaving no room for error. But instead of faltering, the squad regrouped and responded in style. Four straight victories followed, each more assured than the last, earning them a place in the final against Peterborough Lions.

The showdown was a tense, hard-fought contest with neither side giving an inch. After full-time, the teams remained deadlocked, forcing the cup to be decided by a sudden-death shootout. That’s when Luke Evans held his nerve, slotting the winning drop goal and sparking jubilant celebrations from the St Neots faithful.

Club captain Woo praised the effort:
“The lads that pulled on a shirt for the club this Saturday embodied the true spirit of St Neots Rugby. They pulled together as a team, celebrated each other’s successes, and supported the lads when things didn’t go to plan. That attitude took the lads to the final where they belonged and secured a win that speaks volumes as to what we are trying to do at SNRUFC.”

It’s the perfect start to 2025 for St Neots with a cup win that sets the tone for the season ahead. Next up, the squad look to build momentum as they return to action in a pre-season fixture on Saturday 30th August, taking on Milton Keynes at The Common.
