St Neots RUFC Saints vs Deepings

The Saints first league game of 2021 started off at a frantic pace with St Neots dominating possession with fast attacking rugby and Aiden Jordan, playing his first game as captain, Pete Sharp and Josh Lofty combining to run the length of the pitch with quick hands and offloads only to end up giving a penalty away in the Deepings 22 at the breakdown.

This happened on a number of occasions as Deepings defended for the lives in their 22. However, after 10 mins the deadlock was broken by Jack Webb scoring with the conversion added by Adam Porter. 7-0.

Second try from the kick off, Ross Hubbard caught the ball broke two tackles offloaded to Aiden on the blind supporting who accelerated past defenders to score. Ports converted. 14-0.

Josh Lofty then scored with a backs move from their 22, forwards dominated possession made ground to release the backs and Larman danced round tackles to score. Converted Porter 21-0.

The water break at 20 minutes stopped the deluge of tries for a short period. From the restart Josh Lofty on a DSP scores second try, again converted by Porter. 28-0.

Aiden made another devastating run ripping the defence to shreds offloading to Jack Webb in support for his second try. AP missed the conversion but Saints were building a commanding lead. 33-0.

Ross Hubbard collected the ball in his 22 and with a deft offload to Webb who ran 50 m to score his third try. Converted by Porter 40-0.

5 minutes into the second half and St Neots were back in the swing of the fast pace and support. Aiden scored but unfortunately the conversion was missed. 45-0.

With some quick thinking Ant Holt took a quick tap penalty in the Deepings 22 and another try was scored. Conversion AP 52-0.

Then Saints took their foot off gas and Deepings came back with 4 unconverted tries. 20 points.

A game full of positives and a very commanding performance for their first outing in the league this season. Saints look to continue building as they take on Kempston next weekend 15:00 KO at St Neots.
