Heathens Vs Towcestrians

After a multitude of plan changes, The heathens finally had there opposition named as Towcestrians 3's. With squad changes and last second drop outs the Heathens travelled up the M1 to face a young side with lots of pace and skill. (clearly home from uni for the break). a Quick start from Towcester saw them take an early advantage. The Heathens responded by playing to their strength up from and pwoering into the Towcester 22 but time and again the final pass went begging giving Towcester numerous break away tries. Heathens did finally answer after driving the opposition pack over their own line and forcing an attacking scrum 5m out. Tommy McCollin picked up and drove over to score before the half time whistle. The second half started with towcester dropping a prop to take the dominant Heathens pack out of play. this helped their style of play giving quick ball to the speedsters out wide and they scored a few more tries before Heathens could settle into their game, Phil fernie carried well as did Gary Bailey and inroads into the defence were made before McCollin powered over from what must have been 80m (10m) to complete his brace unfortunatley more of the same followed and Towcester scored a few more. more heavy carrying from Man of the Match Gazza Bailey set the platform for Lewis medlow to crash over from close range (nowhere near as far out as McCollin). Martin Bazley was immense, popping up all over the shop to make yards and tackle anything that moved but alas Towcester got the last laugh by scoring under the posts to complete the days scoring. What a way to start the new year by the club fielding 2 sides again and competing and having fun together. what a game and what a bunch of lads!! cheers boys see you all soon, remember Saturday is a rugby day so A1 from now on !!!!
