St Neots RUFC 2nd XV - Heathens Match Report – 09-10-19 – Heathens vs Bedford Swifts
Without a league fixture, Heathens met Bedford Swifts on the common in a friendly fixture, however this didn’t prevent it being a competitive encounter.
Starting brightly through multiple phases organised by debutant scrum half Adam Hadfield, Heathens were soon a try ahead after Toby Hill scampered through the resulting space.
With turnovers being secured across the pack, it wasn’t long before Heathens scored again through Dan Court before he was lost to injury, again!
Swifts however proved strong in opposition and forced pressure of their own and soon had a try reward.
With the attritional nature of the game Heathens were losing more players to injury almost by the second and soon their ample bench was empty.
Swifts exploited the disruption to claw back a further try, before Heathens woke up and countered again.
Slick handling from the evergreen Peter Arnold, occasionally not knocking on, and guile from the fleet footed Rhod Howcroft with 2 feigned kicks, before being stripped of possession began to make inroads, and Heathens were soon ahead again.
Man of the match Adam Porter and the prodigal Ben Arnold led the charge, enabling a try each and one for Howcroft.
Joe Sales also crossed the whitewash to score his one try of the season... we look forward to seeing if he can up his tally this year!
Heathens eventually ran out 27-17 victors.
