Another hard day at the office for a Heathens side that on paper looked strong. Good numbers for the squad gave a sense of optimism which unfortunately didnt last long when the subs had to be utilised early on due to injuries. A heavy St Ives pack put the pressure on Heathens who were already feeling sore (and old) and struggled to get any rhythm going with the set piece being constantly tested. Heathens spent most of the game defending, not really able to run the ball and make use of the backs who were itching for a crack at the St Ives line.
A moment of individual brilliance saw Will Smith slip in for the first try of the game and team excellence through the forwards enabled Phil Fernie to get his try for the day, making it 2 tries in 2 weeks in a Heathens shirt for him.
Man of the Match goes to Reece Hughes for clear communication and control of the backs for both defence and attack.
