Flowing rugby from Heathens at home

Both teams started out strong and for a good 10-15 mins it was a real arm wrestle, but through good discipline Heathens were awarded a penalty in front of the sticks. A clean strike from fly half Reece Hughes opened up the score card for Heathens. Bury, not to be undermined by this came back with a well worked converted try. In true St Neots fashion heads did not dip and powerful carries by the returning Pete Mcfar broke the line several times for Chris Ashcroft to run in the first try for Heathens.
The second half started with Heathens under enormous pressure and spent a long time defending on the 5 metre line. Burys no. 8 thought he was in for a try but the referee called knock on and Heathens gained some breathing space. It was to be short lived however and through more well-timed forward/center work Bury were in for their second. Undeterred, Heathens continued to work the phases on their own ball and managed to freeze out Bury with the majority of possession, though they lost a man for 10minutes when Aedan Pearsall sin binned for a deliberate knock on during an ambitious interception.
A strong and patient attack by the forwards set up a nice platform for the backs to get running and tries came flooding in. Pearsall redeemed himself with a tidy step to beat the last man and score, with further tries for the Ashcroft, Ross Guyver and the young Ashton Jenks, converted well by Reece Hughes and Mike Paterson to see the Heathens into a well earned home win of 38-12!

Man of the Match goes to Jack Walsh for an outstanding effort and great tackles, and a nod to debutant Ollie James who is an absolute work horse and not one to be trifled with. Well done to them both.

A big thank you to Mr Dean as well who, though travelling with the oppoaotion, kindly stepped in to ref when needed at the last minute and conducted the game very fairly.
