With Saints away playing their semi final, the Heathens took centre stage at the common against Local rivals Cambourne Exiles. A quick start saw Heathens take an early lead but this was cancelled out by Cambourne exploiting a mismatch in midfield. Late arrival Mccollin joined the fray and some great work from the Heathens pack gave good field position for the lump to cross the line (completely ignoring the 4 players outside him who could have walked in for the try) again giving the Heathen advantage. From the kick off Heathens lost No8 Paul Warmington after a bump regathering the restart (whilst sounding very similar to a stuck pig in the process, Deliverance like some would say) again strong carries from Phil Fernie, Gary Bailey and Pete Arnold gave good field position for Fernie to offload to McCollin who crashed over for his 2nd. The story of the day was a mix of slick handling and brute force in equal quantaties by the Heathens and Jake Bailey continued with his impressive stat of scoring in every game (he may have actually got 2 but I can't remeber). Jug avoidance from Josh Lofty meant he ended the game with 2 also after dropping the ball in contact when it would have been easier to score but another solid performance from the Heathens which again shows the strength and depth that this club is building (just wish someone that can remember the game could write the reports as I struggle most days to remeber what I had for breakfast)
Overall there were some fantastic performances today form everyone who took the pitch and the commitment and mentality shown by all was immense. no real standout man of the match today but noteable mentions to new player Guy who had a stormer in the 2nd row and Kieran Cartrwright for some flashes of brilliance on the wing and not getting scared and falling over this week.
