SNOBS vs SWIFTS VETS

The Second outing for the coffin dodgers sent them away to Swifts Vets the weekend before Christmas,With masses of facial hair on show it was bound to be a good one. Saints won the Toss and decided to recieve the kick off. this seemed to work well for the old boys who found themselves tearing holes in the Swifts defence at will. some big tackles and good work at the breakdown gave Saints good feild position and a break through the midfield by Tommy McCollin set Lee Cook away to jink under the post for the games first score, McCollin converted. with their tails up Saints added to Swifts woes when Cooky again jinked his way through the Swifts defence like a man half his age to score again, McCollin seeing that it was a long way to walk, relinquished the kicking duties and allowed Cooky to slot the extras. With heart rates at a dangerous level for the Saints coffin dodgers Swifts came alive and took advantage of the Knackered Saints to score a few quick tries to lead at half time. The second half showcased a resurgent Saints side and breaks by Martin Basley, Tommy McCollin, Phil Fernie and club captian Woo to name but a few gave Saints the territorial advantage but the last pass always seemed to go begging. Saints did finally cross the line again through a jinking run fro fly half Bazley and shortly afterwards Tom Worboys broke the line to run in from 40m (unheard of in a vets game) Saints were now in the lead and just needed to see the game out to claim victory but seemed determined to show the host some Christmas cheer and attempted to go wide at the death, a knock on and swits pounced and stole the game 33-28. there were some massive performances today from all the lads and even a few debutants, George Durbridge lasting nearly 2 minutes before claiming injury but returing later to bulk up the front row. Man of the Match again went to Lee Cook for an outstanding performance
