St Neots Face a Tough Challenge in the East Midlands Cup
In less-than-ideal weather conditions, St Neots took to the field in Round 1 of the East Midlands Cup, facing a formidable Olney side.
The match got off to a shaky start for St Neots, as Olney capitalised on a loose ball from the kickoff to immediately put them on the back foot. At that moment, it seemed like St Neots might be in for a long 70 minutes. However, the team quickly regrouped and pushed back, taking the game to Olney.
Olney maintained pressure throughout, and without the grit and determination shown by St Neots in defense, the scoreline could have been far more lopsided. Olney made good use of their width, scoring tries out wide after building phases of play that opened up space. However, their kicker was often left with difficult conversion attempts due to the wide positioning of their scores.
Despite the relentless opposition, St Neots remained competitive, standing firm in defense with some dominant tackles and making several sniping runs when given the chance, always supported by players running in close support.
Though the final score was 0-39 in favor of Olney, St Neots can take away valuable lessons from the game. Every player should be proud of their performance, as the team showed resilience and heart throughout.
St Neots wishes Olney the best of luck for the rest of their season and the cup.
The focus now turns to next week’s Cambs Cup, hosted at The Common. All support is welcome, with games kicking off from 13:00.
