St neots v Ampthill

Today St Neots welcomed Ampthill along to the Common on a cold October morning.

The boys knew today was not going to be an easy game as we know full well how well trained and disciplined Ampthill are even with several strong players missing.

Before the game both teams came together for a minute silence to show their respect for the sad news from our friends from Wisbech RUFC.

Ampthill started strong as expected and left the St Neots boys in shock as they quickly got some strong runs in through the st neots defence resulting in the home team going a few tries down. Ampthill left no ruck un contested and held themselves preventing the home team any chance to break through the centre.
We went into half time 0-20.

As the second half started the St Neots boys settled and started to apply some of the defensive work from training which finally put a stop to the Ampthill attack. Once St Neots got the ball the forwards started to work together in their pods making ground up the field. Finally some space appeared and the winger got some space to run in, teamed with some fancy footwork the home team finally got some points on the board.

This boosted the home team and they recreated the same again this time utilising the opposite wing. Again another great run closed the gap to 10 points, but Ampthill was finished yet and returned with another couple of well worked tries.

Again the forwards worked well and with a great driving run through the Ampthill defence the home team got another great try.

Overall a slow start for St Neots but a welcomed improvement in the second half with the lads showing lots of the training material. Hopefully they will hold the confidence as we go into an away game next weekend.
