Following a strong run of wins, St Neots U13s met their match this week against a formidable Bedford side. It was a tough day for the squad, who came up against a strong, well-drilled Bedford team. Their impressive level of basic skill set a high standard and gave our players a clear idea of what to work towards.
The clear highlight of the first half was a fantastic, powerful run from Thaddeus, who broke through the middle to score a well-deserved try. Unfortunately, this same play resulted in an injury that forced him to retire from the game.
However, in the second half, St Neots applied significant pressure on the Bedford team. A series of quick penalties, led by Attlee, began to break down Bedford's structure. This allowed our powerful runners to make dents in the Bedford defence and show what our team is capable of.
It was a highly physical and attritional match, which sadly saw a number of other St Neots players leave the field with injuries. We wish all of them a speedy recovery.
Looking ahead, we have two crucial training sessions before our next match. The game against Bedford highlighted key areas for development, so our focus will be squarely on improving our defensive alignment, refining our tackle technique, and securing possession from the kick-off receipt.
As always, a massive thank you goes to all the parents who supported the team. From setting up and taking down the pitch, providing first aid, setting up and taking down the food tables, and working in the kitchen, your contribution is invaluable. Thanks also go to Will for refereeing.
