On a cold, blowy morning St Neots U12’s continued their early season form by going through the competition unbeaten, scoring the most tries and conceding the least bit through a quirk of the rules finishing 3rd out of 12 teams taking part from Lincolnshire, Cambridgeshire, Bedfordshire, Northamptonshire and Suffolk.
Our first match vs Newark was a close affair but our strength shone through and we won 2-0.
Our second game vs Kesteven of Lincolnshire was also close running out 3-1 winners.
Our final match was a procession of power and back play which we ran out 7-0 winners. This made us group winners and put us through to the final 4 where we play the much fancied Old Northamptonians. After a slow start a conceding a soft try Louis Chapman intercepted and ran the length of the pitch to equal the scores. The two teams pummelled each other to submission but the score ended 1-1.
No one knew what this meant apart from a few eagle eyed supporters who had noticed that instead of extra time or a usual way of separating teams it was the team that scored first that went through........
St Neots shrugged off the disappointment and won the 3rd place play off 2-1 in the pouring rain to end the day with the overall score of 15 tries scored, 3 conceded. Everyone gave their all and played their hearts out.
Scorers names will be added soon!
