MATCH REPORT 11/11/18
VERSUS OLNEY
SAINTS TEAM Harry Noonan, Stanley, Zeren, Henry, Charlie Dibben, Oscar Muston, Zac, Charlie Pirie.
Game 1
St.Neots Saints 4 Olney 9
Tries: Stanley 2, Henry 1, Charlie Pirie 1
So today we welcomed a very strong Olney to St.Neots. We know Olney to be a very tough team and they didn’t disappoint.
Olney started very strong making full use of every chance they got and soon went ahead with a couple of great tries. This soon made the team realise it wasn’t going to be a easy day for them. We came back from the restart with a great try from Stanley finding every bit of space out on the touch line dodging through the Pink colours of Olney. Olney were soon back on it but some great tagging from Zac and Oscar made the Olney attack very hard.
After a quick get together at half time we knew we had to hold our defence to stop Olney running away with the win. This worked great and soon got us the ball back and we saw some great attacking runs from both Charlie Dibben and Henry. Henry finally managed a strong run and got us back in the game.
Zeren soon had control of the defensive line and with the help of Harry and Charlie Pirie they managed to get several tags to prevent Olney from scoring again. Great Work!
Oscar made another great run but was attacked by several Olney players within 2meters of the tri line; this was then passed superbly to a supporting Charlie Pirie who cut back inside to score! Great teamwork!
It was nearing the end of the game now and despite great runs from Zeren, Zac and Charlie Dibben Olney had quite a clear lead but the Saints didn’t give up and Stanley again managed to run down the line to get his second try of the day.
A tough game but we should great teamwork and respect.
Final Score Saints 4 Olney 9

Game 2
St.Neots Saints 2 Olney 7
Tries: Stanley 2
After a tough first game we knew we had to be on top form. Zac started off strong with a couple of great runs only to be blocked by the sea of Pink shirts. Olney again took every chance possible intercepting the ball and quickly picking the ball up when we made a drop and they turned these chances into tries.
We again held our defensive line well with the great organisation of Harry and Charlie. This helped us hold off Olney for longer.
Olney were struggling to break us and Zeren showed a great run dodging through the Olney defence only to be tagged close to the tri line. Zeren Off loaded well and gave Oscar a chance. Oscar ran to the furthest point to get the try but was unluckily tagged again close to the line by a great defensive line. We finally managed to break through with a great try from Stanley.
The game wasn’t over yet but we were starting to show signs of tiredness resulting in dropping the ball a far few times. Henry made another great run but couldn’t break through the defence but the great support of his team mate Zac made sure the pass was received and play was pushed forward.
Coming into the last few minutes of the game and St.Neots were still fighting with great runs from Harry Noonan and Charlie Pirie. But unfortunately they couldn’t manage to break clear from the great tagging from Olney.
Stanley had one last shot and Olney couldn’t match the speed and Stanley made it count in the top corner. Great running.
Final Score St Neots 2 Olney 7

It was great to see such good team work today by all the players. They were always supporting their team mates and work fantastic together and all done with big smiles. Well done!

MATCH REPORT 11/11/18
VERSUS OLNEY
CARDINALS TEAM
Charlie Strong, Evie, Freddie Wilson, Jack, Cameron, Freddie Cox, William, Oscar Larsen
Game 1
St Neots Cardinals 6 Olney 9
Tries: Freddie Wilson 3, Evie 2, Freddie Cox 1
It is always a tough match versus Olney. They are well drilled and VERY intense.
After an incredibly slow start by St Neots, Olney raced into a 4 nil lead. A combination of slow passing and dropping the ball let Olney get off to a great start.
Evie was able to pull one back with a blistering solo run to score in the corner to get the score back to 4 – 1. St Neots were starting to find their feet and the holding of the defensive line is the best it has ever been. William, Jack, Oscar, Cameron and Charlie Strong were doing their absolute best and succeeding to slow the Olney attack down. Some great tagging by William aswell Cameron’s and Jack’s ability to get back into the defensive line was having a real effect.
Despite Freddie Wilson’s meandering run to score in the corner the half ended 6 – 2.
After a half time discussion around making sure we stay within the confines of the pitch the second half started with St Neots coming out fighting.
Jack, Charlie Strong, William and Freddie Wilson were putting up a fantastic defence. Cameron was making some fantastic runs forward and giving his team mates chance to take the ball in to score tries.
Oscar Larsen in only his first match for St Neots was growing with confidence every time he touched the ball.
Freddie Cox completely went against my constant calls to always go forwards. He ran back behind all of his team mates to my total disappointment. He then ran past all of his team mates aswell as the whole Olney team to score an amazing try in the corner. Freddie Cox 1 Tom Wilson 0.
Evie managed to score another try and Freddie Wilson scored 2 more meaning that the discussion we had about putting in more effort might have paid off.
The second half finished 4 – 3 to St Neots and 9 – 6 to Olney overall.A fantastic half of rugby by all St Neots players with plenty of praise to be heaped on all.

Game 2
St Neots Cardinals 7 Olney 6
Tries: Evie 3, Freddie Wilson 2, Oscar Larsen 1, Freddie Cox 1.
St Neots started where they left off from the first game with Evie running a try in to take St Neots into a very early 1 nil lead. It was obvious that Olney were shocked.
Freddie Cox and Freddie Wilson were struggling to stay within the perimeters of the pitch again but after a chat (loudly by me) Freddie Cox made a great cut inside to score a fantastic try.
Jack, William and Charlie Strong were again holding the line fantastically well and Olney were left to run sideways across the line as there was no way through. Cameron was fantastic in defence and when he couldn’t get the tag he stood his ground amazingly. The Olney player could only bounce backwards off of Cameron’s rock solid stance.
Oscar was again gaining more confidence with every carry and despite calls from Olney of “tag” (when no tags were made) Oscar ran his first try in for the club. A proud moment indeed!
Olney were obviously rattled and were getting more and more physical. Evie was pushed outside the line robustly but dusted herself down well to come back in the best way by scoring two more tries.
William who is like a rock had two Olney players come flying towards him with little intent to take tags. The whistle was blown and Olney had to be spoken to. As per usual, William couldn’t understand why the whistle was blown as both players had bounced off him!
Olney were able to make a few good break away tries but the support from all of the St Neots players were improving as the match wore on.
Cameron’s perseverance paid off in the end with a fantastic run in the last few plays. With big shouts from his mum to “stay inside the lines”, Cameron got within 2 metres of the line before being tagged. The offload onto a running Freddie Wilson was the best part though as Olney were given no time to re organise and Freddie scored the last try of the game.
The whole team can be so proud of how well they played against a very intense Olney team and coaching staff. If it wasn’t apparent before, today showed how far all of the players have come. Not a single forward pass, very few dropped passes, great tagging and great organisation of the arrow head when attacking and defensive line when defending shows how far they have all come. Yes I know I was shouting a lot but as the games wore on my shouting was less intense as the players were organising themselves.
A good game of bull dog at the end with plenty of smiles from players, coaches and parents of both clubs ended the day perfectly.

Well done to Freddie Cox for player of the week. He played so well he deserved the two Rs in FRREDDIE when signing his name on the team ball.
