Top of the table clash in NC2 Midlands (Central)

A strong defensive set from the kick off for the Saints led to early handling errors from Peterborough and the Saints being able to hold them in their own 22 before a clearance kick put the ball into the Saints half. Peterborough gained possession from the clearance kick making them a threat in the Saints 22. A fantastic covering tackle from Beth Carr meant Peterborough were denied a try and the possession was back with the Saints to play out their own 22. A clearance kick from Beth Robinson lead to possession being regained by Saints winger Chloe Flynn-Brown, and strong phases of attacking play from the St Neots Ladies.

A handling error from the Saints and a flyhack through from Peterborough meant the visitors had possession of the ball in the Saints 22. An incredibly strong scrum from the Saints put pressure on the Peterborough attack, but a strong period of defensive play meant the Lionesses wide plan ran in their first try of the game.

Strong tackles from Lucy Bull and Niamh Grant meant the Saints turned over the ball and regained possession in Peterborough’s half. After a period of attacking play, the visitors turned over the ball. A kick over the top lead to Peterborough regaining possession and running in their second try of the game.

Another strong set of defensive play lead to a knock on from Peterborough in their own half, and a scrum from the Saints leading to some technical backs plays that gained territory and put pressure on the Peterborough defence. Unable to convert this phase of attacking play into points, Peterborough regained possession and strung together many phases of attacking play which was quickly met by the Saints relentless defence and a turnover of the ball. Unfortunately Peterborough had an advantage in play and the game was brought back for a scrum. Peterborough’s advantage and possession was short lived after a turnover from the Saints meant they were once again attacking in their half.

A penalty from the Saints meant a line out to Peterborough shortly followed by a clearance kick, allowing Carr to stretch her legs and gain possession up the field. A string of incredibly strong attacking play from the Saints forward and backs meant a breakthrough run from the centre Sophie Langham before being tackled in Peterborough’s 22 and the visitors regaining possession through a scrum. This possession was followed by a long string of attack play and a breakthrough run from Peterborough leading to their third score of the game.

With the half time kick off being turned over by Peterborough, an interesting bounce of the ball between Peterborough players lead to an early score for them in the second half.

A strong defensive set from the Saints after the kick off and a fantastic gain line tackle from Harriet Styman on the Peterborough Scrum half lead to a turnover for the Saints and a kick for possession to put Peterborough back in their own 22. With a string of attacking play for Peterborough their wide plays out to the wing allowed them to score their fourth try of the game.

A strong defensive set from the kick off and a fantastic turn over at the ruck from Holly Hazel meant the Saints were back in possession of the ball. A strong set of attacking play from the Saints gained them possession on the field, which lead to Peterborough giving away a penalty in front of the posts, and Sophie Langham getting the Saints off the mark by kicking three points.

A knock on from the kick off lead to Peterborough gaining an attacking scrum in the Saints half, and through another strong string of attacking play, the Saints had fought hard to gain the turnover and possession of the ball from the Lionesses. A strong attacking set put the Saints ladies in strong position to score their first try of the game, but an unfortunate penalty lead to the Lionesses playing the ball out of their own 22. A clearance kick gave St Neots possession again before being turned over on the half way line and a scrum to Peterborough.

Another strong set of attacking play and a hard fought defence from the St Neots Ladies lead to a Fifth try being scored out wide by the visitors. After a knock on from the kick off the Saints Ladies we’re in possession of the ball in Peterborough’s 22, and a penalty from Peterborough gave the chance for the Saints to kick another 3 points at the end of the game. Unfortunately being unable to covert the penalty into points, the final score of the game was 36-3.
