Sunday afternoon saw the Cambridge Barbarians take on Wymondham at St Neots Rugby Club. It was the Barbarians’ first competitive match of the season and Wymondham’s second, so it was great for the girls to get this opening fixture under their belts. Both sides put in a committed performance, with strong tackles on display throughout.
The Barbarians showed real determination but struggled to retain possession at the ruck, losing key ball that ultimately contributed to a 70–20 win for Wymondham.
Special recognition goes to the Barbarians’ joint players of the match, Zara and Charlise. Zara made several powerful runs, while Charlise impressed in her debut with some outstanding tackles. In addition Wymondham chose Willow as their player of the match from the opposition for her sharp footwork and excellent defensive work.
